The wire dog

"If you want to make an idea into a real thing, set everything else aside and focus on that."

After postponing some time, I decided to make it out the day before. Put other things aside and form this wire dog.

It's not the same in my imagination.
The dog I want should be other kind.
I think one of the problem is the big eyes.

The black glass beads pendant

The black glass beads pendant

Hang the sharp angle or the end loop

I bought these cheap black glass beads long time ago. Whenever I saw them, I have no idea how to get the right design. So, they sit there for long.

Now, I decide to make something out with the black glass beads. We all should try to make the most of what we have. Before we happily get into another shopping, look around the things we have at hand. Put 4 of the heart-shaped glass beads together to form a clover. The thin wire strings them and wraps around the irregular frame. Since it needs some wrapping, this project will not be a very quick one.

Egg-shaped wire bag

I drew a draft for egg-shaped wire bag months ago. I think the shape of an egg are stylish. Finally, I made the first egg-shaped bag out. From idea to draft to forming to end result, it does take long time sometimes.

The handle are 3-braids. If I make next egg-shaped bag in this style, I will improve some places.

I bought some materials cheap from an old grocery store last month. Because they are stocks for many years. The materials are more elastic than what I am used to. And the prices of metals rise in recent years. With cheap materials, I can avoid being stressed when making crafts that need long length of wires. If you find some metal wires cheap stocks, take the chance.

Materials for the egg-shaped bag:

  • 22 gauge about 160 cm

Wire Weaving Bag

Wire Weaving Bag took more than 3 yards to form it.

This kind of wire-weaving is easy when making 2D objects. However, 3D wire weaving does not mean that it has to become difficult. Unless, more patience required is equal to difficulty. It makes some sense. Whenever becoming impatient, I got a ugly shape, even miss a weaving.

I made loops on one side of the handle, let it have a place to hang some beads or  flowers etc.

I will use the same weaving method to form another different type of wire bags in the future.

The bag might not be perfect and it can be done much better. Actually, from scratch the idea, it took hours in the whole process. I know I got improvements after hard time.

After making this bag, my hand got a bit sore. Time to take a rest.

Wire Weaving Basket

The best feature of wire weaving is solid. Another feature is it will need much more materials.

This little wire weaving basket needs about 2 yards of wire.

Such a basket is not hard to make, it just requires some patience.

I will use the same weaving method to extend to make wire bags, wire balls.....etc.

The wire weaving basket is practical to store some little objects.
If making a smaller one, it can be a jewelry dangle.
If making a larger one, it can store more things inside.

Wire Soap Holder

I need another Soap Holder for my handmade soap (CP cold precess soap).
This wire soap holder is made of gauge 12 wire.
It's also a good opportunity to try the diy nylon jaws.
Half hard gauge 12 wire is a little hard to bend and it worn out the nylon pieces.

wire soap holder

Both sides work.
Actually it's not my start design, my first idea for this soap holder is simpler than end item.  But everything changes while making. The start idea is often different with end item.
Both sides of this soap holder works.

normal sized soap holder
CP soap need soap holder to last for longer use. This wire soap holder can be used to hold up to 200g soad.

While making soap holder with wire, the most important things is whether the holder can stand well.

The soap holder stands well with soap on it.

The nylon pieces are broke.
Replace the nylon pieces

very few tool marks
The nylon part of mylon jaws is very easy to wear out. The nylon part worn out, when this wire soap holder is done. Since the replacement of nylon pieces costs me nothing and it deals with tool marks well, I am satisfied.

Japanese Cube TIp

Recently, I'm amazed at maille (mail).
I viewed many wireworks of maille.
Jump rings can make so many patterns, even in 3D sculptures, such as castles, bags, flags, baskets, housed, buckets, armors...etc.
If you need tutorials of maille, you can go to Maille Artisan International League

Japanese cube 8-in-2

While it takes a lot of time to complete a maille piece,
I decided to make a Japanese cube 8 in 2 this time.
This small Japanese cube takes me hours to make. It's understandable, since it's my first time to  make.
Maille is a repetitive work, the most difficult part is to figure out how to construct. Once you figure out , everything is clear and all you need is patience and time.

When I made this Japanese cube, I used tips to help me find the correct rings to join.
This saved me a lot of time while making complicated mailles in the beginning.
I will share one tip of Japanese cube weave. It's useful, especially for beginners.

First layer of Japanese cube
The Japanese cube tip is using kinked different colored wires to hold ends.

The order is clear.

Whenever you are confused, hold it up, and the rings order is clear. You can use colored wires to hold other ends when you feel necessary. This tip will also help to position when trying out other maille weaves.
So, do not throw out kinked wires, they're useful.
What to do with ugly wire

Wire Saxophone

This Saxophone Wire Sculpture was a gift from a friend in Europe.
The material is one piece of bare aluminum wire, not color plated, so the look is humble.
If using other beautiful wire, it will look wonderful.
Anyway, this Saxophone is  definitely a creative wirework.

Height of the wire sculpture saxophone is about 20cm.

Wire flower

I made this wire flower yesterday.
At first, what I wanted was a Camellia.
The final piece of work doesn't look like a Camellia.
The wire flower is similar to clovers overlayed. It gives me an idea of adding more layers wight make a carnation wire flower.
It doesn't matter. I will try to make a Camellia wire flower some day.

When taking photos, it's hard to actually express the colors and shine of metals.

The upper parts are photos without white papers around.
The lower parts of the photos  were taken in same conditions but with white papers around. The lower parts of the photos are much whiter and pinker. It's closer to actual colors and shine.
